Name: Faber Swaine

Job title: ESG reporting and project coordinator

Location: Palestra

Hi Faber! Please sum up your role in one sentence

I manage and report on ESG data for internal and external reporting whilst also supporting on community engagement projects to ensure ARL is recognised as a responsible business.

Tell us about your journey to ARL…

While studying Social Policy at the University of York, I discovered a passion for Corporate Social Responsibility, which inspired me to write my dissertation on it. After graduating, I took some time to travel around Central America, getting to experience different cultures before joining AXA UK&I as their Corporate Responsibility Coordinator. Over two years there, I specialised in reporting and leading their philanthropic programmes.

Seeking a career that had more focus on sustainability and opportunity to develop, I joined ARL. It has just over a month, and I am excited to continue to make a positive impact!

What do you look forward to most working at ARL?

This new role is an incredible opportunity to deepen my impact in ESG within the transport sector and make meaningful changes in the communities in which we serve. I am looking forward to developing my knowledge in ESG, which is ever-changing. It’s been fantastic to meet the team and I look forward to meeting others across the business!

I have little knowledge of the rail industry and I am fascinated by what I have learnt so far. I am eager to grow my knowledge and get to grips with the company and the industry.

So far, what are you most proud of in your career?

I am proud that I selected the career path I chose as I find my job so fulfilling by making an impact on our local communities and the environment, creating a real difference for generations to come. In this career, every day is different which I absolutely love.

Tell us about your most memorable railway trip…

When I went to Barcelona with my family last summer, we went on a 30-minute train ride to a coastal town where we spent the whole day taking in the sun, eating amazing seafood and enjoying each other’s company!

Where would you go if you could book a ticket to any destination?

Something that has always been on my bucket list to go and see is the Northern Lights. I would love to go to Tromso or Reykjavik to go and experience them. A bonus would be to stay in one of the glass igloos so that I can watch them all night. During the day, I would love to go hiking to see some of the amazing scenery they have to offer.
