Name: Hubert Przybysz
Job title: (previous role and what your current role is) Train driver, previously revenue protection assistant at South Western Railway and customer concierge at Heathrow Express.
Location: Willesden Junction
Hi Hubert! Please sum up your role in one sentence
I drive trains ensuring safe, efficient and on time service for our passengers.
Tell us about your journey to ARL… Becoming a train driver was my childhood dream that never faded away. It burns brightly to this day - especially now that I achieved my life goal. I went to a railway school where learning was just a pleasure; I started my railway career six and a half years ago by selling train tickets and then went on to become a conductor and even became a revenue inspector for some time until I landed at the driver's seat in ARL.
What do you enjoy about working at ARL? I loved how warmly I was welcomed by everyone I encountered in this company. I still meet new colleagues every day; they are all very kind, supportive and respectful.
In your career so far, what are you most proud of? I am proud of every step of my career, but I am most proud of successfully completing the entire training programme for this job. I had to apply myself to the training like never before and with my passion for the job, hard work, and commitment, I passed the final exams.
Tell us about your most memorable railway trip… I can never resist a stroll through Scottish Highlands. Whether it is on the West Highland Line or Highland Main Line, I am always equally amazed by the views out of the windows. And indeed, I am jealous of a driver's view from the best seat on that train!
If you could book a ticket to any destination, where would you go? Helsinki must be the one. This beautiful, modern capital city is a gem in itself and stands as a gateway to exploring the beauty of Finland, from a charm of a sunset on the fortress of Suomenlinna to an energetic concert on a cruise ship out of Turku, to a magic show of Northern Lights whilst walking on a frozen lake in Lapland.
ARL is committed to the internal progression, growth and development of colleagues and over the past year, more than one third of vacancies were filled internally.
