A LONE DOG'S ADVENTURE ON THE RAILWAY!

On a late October night, a lone dog ran down the track at North Wembley station. Stopped by driver Andy O’Leary, who spotted his scurries across the platform, then startled by the rumble of the train, the dog ran away. Andy slowly approached the dog. He stopped and called the dog by whistling and the dog came to him.

Although still frightened, the dog sought comfort from Andy as they boarded the cab. With no owner in sight, he called for assistance.

Just before midnight the dog was handed over to the Willesden Junction station staff. The dog was given a nice railway dog lead and a line of ‘keep clear’ tape attached to his collar. He could now be safely walked upstairs and handed over to the duty resource manager (DRM).

The DRM on duty was Freddy Agyemang, who became very attached to the dog during the night shift. Freddy contacted the Metropolitan Police who advised they could not come and collect the dog and that Freddy would have to hold on to it for now. The RSPCA and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home wase also unable to aid at this time, late on Saturday night.

So, the dog stayed with the DRM, in the office, where he proved a friendly companion.

Freddy took the Shih-tzu for a few walks around Willesden Junction platform four to platform five, around and around the platform buildings and up and down the platforms.

The next morning the Shih-tzu was still at Willesden Junction as Freddy handed over the DRM office to Luke Simpson.

As the morning wore on, Luke became concerned for the little dogs’ welfare and thought about getting breakfast. A spare driver was duly dispatched to the shop when they opened at about 9 am. However the little Shih-tzu was not tempted by this Happy Shopper fare and further calls were made to try and find a home for him.

The dog was retrieved by Mayhew's Charity on Sunday afternoon and the chip was scanned where it was discovered they had an address but no telephone number. However, the charity worker who collected the dog from Willesden Junction lived near the address on the chip and called round. The dog was reunited with its owners on the Monday morning.

The dog hasn’t been seen since on the tracks at North Wembley, so must be happily sitting indoors for the winter!

Thank you, Peter Louw for Sharing.
