VIDEO: A MORNING IN THE HOTSEAT
Ever wondered what it’s like driving a class 710? Internal communications lead, George Clarke, took the opportunity to visit Willesden Junction to try out the train simulator to experience life in the cab!
The class 710 train simulator is part of the training trainee drivers undertake before heading out on the London Overground network, simulating the journey from Gospel Oak to Barking Riverside.
Drivers are placed on the simulator at various points for assessment once qualified. This allows the assessor to simulate incidents that cannot or are rarely experienced.
The assessor and sim operator will ensure the driver is aware of their surroundings and adopt robust Personal Protection Strategies (PPS). Using several PPS tools ensures the driver can handle whatever the operator throws at them in a safe environment, with any areas of development identified and retrained if required.
The sim is occasionally available between driver assessments. Please email Ryan Dearlove (ryan.dearlove@arrivarl.co.uk) for more information.
