A NEW DAWN FOR TRAINCARE

It's no hidden secret London Overground trains are always in tip-top condition, no matter what time of the day, and this is thanks to our fabulous traincare team.

Speaking to Exchange Extra, Brian King, head of traincare, revealed some of the upcoming changes in the team after a resourcing model review; he said: "We found our trains remain in service much later at night and go into service much earlier in the morning. Thereby not allowing us enough, as we call 'touch time' for colleagues to adequately clean our trains."

However, to keep on top of things, it requires more support; Brian explains: "The only way to counter this is to increase the workforce, with twenty vacancies being opened to fulfil the new demand. This has provided many opportunities for internal progression, with several colleagues being promoted to supervisor level.

"Several of our recruits have joined us from the agencies that work closely with ARL. To continue to increase the quality of service, allowing for more touch time to fulfil our cleanliness standards adequately. We are booking inductions for those required to receive Personal Track Safety (PTS) training."

The recruitment drive continues further, as vacancies in other areas of the team are also being filled. Brian believes this is a compelling time to be part of the traincare team with many exciting developments in the pipeline. "As part of a rolling programme, we have introduced a new fleet of vacuum cleaners. These vacuums are the first commercial-grade cordless on the market, allowing for enhanced cleaning flexibility."
