ARL CHARITY INITIATIVE: FEBRAURY 2025 WINNER

Since launching in 2023, Arriva Rail London's charity fund has been helping colleagues make a real difference by supporting causes close to their hearts. Every month, the PSG team reviews applications from ARL colleagues and awards them with up to £1,000 to local charities.

For February 2025, the charity nominated by Maria Peakin, senior business support manager, Laburnum Boat Club, received a £1,000 donation. Laburnum Boat Club is a vital community hub based in Hackney with just four paid staff members. The club provides a safe and welcoming space for local families and young people, many of whom go on to volunteer and support future generations. The club helps young people build confidence, skills, and a sense of community through water-based activities, including a youth club, an inclusive sports club, and corporate hire.

Located between Hoxton and Haggerston stations, the club runs activities such as kayaking—often right under our trains! Maria Peakin and Samantha Nakirya, stakeholder and community manager, visited the charity to see its impact first-hand and explore further ways ARL could support them.

During the visit, Laburnum coordinator Beth shared how the £1,000 donation will help fund new kitchen utensils for their upcoming Inclusive Kitchen refurbishment, ensuring they continue providing essential community services.
