ARL TAKES PART IN SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT PANEL AT WALK2COP27

On Monday 26th September, I attended an industry panel on the future of sustainable transport as part of the lead up to COP27, which this year is in Egypt.

The event was for Walk2COP27, a collaborative project raising awareness of the environmental challenges we face and with an aim to engage as many people as possible.

While COP26 in Glasgow last year was focused on a future Net Zero target, COP27 begins on the 6th November and is being held in Egypt, with a focus on financing for climate change adaption. This is being led by Mark Carney, the former Head of the Bank of England, who is challenging banks and other financing institutions to commit trillions of dollars to the climate cause, which represents a huge potential source of hope!

There were two panels on the day. The first considered “Climate change challenges and responses in England”, to examine some of the ways the UK will need to adapt to the changing climate conditions. The second, which I sat on, was on “Climate change and transport in England”, looking at how the transport industry needs to commit to Net Zero and how we are already adapting to existing issues such as last summer’s heatwave.
