BUSH HILL PARK'S NEW GREEN SPACE
This year’s Overground in Bloom competition took a new, long-term approach, to ensure the benefits of our network’s green spaces are enjoyed year-round, and Bush Hill Park took on a new project to reflect this.
The aim of the project was to improve biodiversity and air quality, while also creating an enhanced experience for our customers.
“ARL has been working closely with Energy Garden in the past year to improve the health and safety arrangements in place, but also to identify areas of opportunity where we might be able to expand and create new garden areas,” explained Henry Cawson, environment and energy manager. “At Bush Hill Park, we have been working with Energy Garden for a number of years and have a well-established relationship with a local community group, alongside our station team and Zdzislaw Halejcio, service delivery manager.”
The project began with volunteers clearing the area, before installing new raised beds made from recycled materials. The beds have since been filled with plants from local London nurseries, resulting in an amazing new green area which is loved by local residents.
"It is a huge showcase of what can be achieved at our stations.”
“In partnership with local community volunteers at Energy Garden, Bush Hill Park has had a platform completely “bloom” as part of this year’s Overground in Bloom competition. It is a huge showcase of what can be achieved at our stations,” said Henry. “This area represents a huge improvement to the station and will be a centre piece for customers. It will significantly enhance the biodiversity at the station as well as improve the air quality locally. I, for one, can’t wait to see all the butterflies there next summer!”
