CELEBRATING RAILWAY 200 AT HIGHAMS PARK
To mark 200 years since the world’s first passenger railway, Highams Park hosted a joyful community celebration on Saturday, 22 June, and ARL was proud to collaborate with the Highams Park Planning Group to support this special day.
Centred around Highams Park station and the surrounding town centre, the event brought together local residents, businesses and visitors to celebrate the town’s rich railway heritage. ARL sponsored traditional weaving workshops at the station rooms, a tribute to the recently renamed Weaver line, which recognises the line’s historic role in connecting communities and crafts.
The station’s community hub was transformed into a weaving studio, where skilled weavers gave live demonstrations and encouraged people of all ages to get involved. Outside, the station car park came alive with a local trader’s market, food and drink stalls, live music, children’s train rides, face painting and more.
This collaboration with the Highams Park Planning Group strengthened community ties and highlighted the railway's continued importance in shaping local identity.
"The event was very well attended and there was a lovely buzz all over Highams Park while the event was happening and even afterwards as people relaxed in the cafes and bars around the town."
Thank you to Shivani Hill, head of ESG, Faber Swaine, ESG reporting and project coordinator, Samantha Nakirya, stakeholder and community manager, and our brilliant station team for helping make the day a real success for the community.
