CRYSTAL PALACE PIANO COVE

Delightful news from Crystal Palace station – a new resident has arrived to bring joy to customers: a piano!

This initiative was championed by service delivery resilience manager, Natalia Hamilton, and Neal Bailey, customer experience manager, as a resident contacted them earlier this year to donate her piano to make the station a livelier and more vibrant atmosphere for everyday travellers.

After a thorough safety check and refurbishment, the piano was ready to be placed at the station, and Natalia named the dedicated place ‘Crystal Palace Piano Cove’!

To inaugurate this community piano a beautiful event was organised on the morning of 17 October with the help of Harris Primary Academy School. The children from the school filled the concourse of Crystal Palace with their joyful voices, singing three renditions of ‘This Little Light of Mine’, ‘Wonder’ and ‘I Am’ while being accompanied by their teachers who took over the playing of the piano and supported them through their performance.

"As a school, it is a wonderful community event to be a part of and our children are excited to be a part of this lovely event!"

The event was attended by proud parents of the singing children and travelling passers-by who smiled and clapped for the talented young students. Even our managing director, Steve Best, was present to show his support and excitement for this event.

As the event came to an end with the children and teachers heading back to school, Natalia expressed her joy:

"I’m so happy to see everything come together nicely, it was amazing having Harris Academy Primary School here performing and the community coming together. We are looking forward to moments like these.’"

The children’s performance showcased the enjoyment of music and highlighted the sense of community we strive to cultivate with the arrival of the Crystal Palace Piano Cove.

Fun fact: Seven years ago, Harris Primary Academy School coordinated with us at Crystal Palace for a lovely Christmas Carol singing event!
