ENVIRONMENT & ENERGY MANAGER NOMINATED FOR 'RISING SUSTAINABILITY STAR' AWARD
ARL’s environment and energy manager, Henry Cawson, has been nominated for a ‘Rising Sustainability Star’ award at the edie Awards 2023, the UK’s largest sustainability awards.
Now in its 16th year, the awards panel has recognised Henry for his dedication in supporting ARL’s mission to continually improve our environmental and energy performance. The winner will be announced on Thursday 30 March 2023.
Henry joined ARL in October 2020, bringing his experience as Sustainability Manager at a hospitality food service provider. His role involves managing biodiversity, decarbonisation and environmental assurance projects, including leading on ARL’s mission to achieve Net Zero by 2030.

We are constantly looking for ways to empower our workforce in implementing our environment and energy policy. Henry has helped his fellow colleagues by improving training and awareness in this area. As well as organising awareness months around energy and water, Henry has arranged webinars and produced videos to encourage positive behavioural changes both in the workplace and at home.
As part of our aim to support biodiversity and improve air quality, Henry has transformed the annual ‘Overground in Bloom’ gardening competition from a standalone summer event to a year-round project. Previously focused on small-scale floral displays, the project has now led to over 400m2 of biodiversity improvements across London Overground stations, with plans to increase to 1000m2 next year.

In line with our environment and energy policy, Henry has ensured that our environmental management system follows the requirements of ISO14001 and ISO50001. This allows us to govern our business processes around water, waste and energy management, and in turn enhance our environmental performance.
Paul Hutchings, managing director, said: “Henry hit the ground running in the railway and has had an exceptional first two years, working hard to improve our environmental performance. I am excited to see how Henry builds further on the fantastic work that he has already done in turning ARL’s sustainability vision into reality.”
Good luck to Henry!
