FACT OR FICTION

DEVELOPING STORY

Career development – internal progression and personal development – is one of our three key strategic areas of focus following your feedback in the 2022 employee survey. Alex Fleming, recruitment business partner, Arriva UK Trains, sorts the fact from the fiction

There is nothing on Arriva Learning to help with CV writing

FICTION: We have various types of training on Arriva Learning that help you create an impactful CV. These are covered through animations, e-learning, items to download and quizzes. Click here to find out more.

Internal roles are accessible and shared regularly across the business

FACT: Our vacancy list, covering roles across Arriva UK Trains, is shared across the business as part of the Weekly Business Update email. We also advertise every single position internally for at least two weeks to ensure that everyone within ARL has had the opportunity to apply. Roles are also on the DB website and advertised on LinkedIn. Click here to view the latest vacancies.

ARL has tools to help colleagues progress

FACT: We have tools on Arriva Learning, our learning and development portal (accessed via the LOdown) that help staff looking to progress, e.g. interview advice and guidance on which courses to take to help their progression. Click here to visit Arriva Learning.

ARL isn’t interested in promoting internally

FICTION: Our internal hires have increased on the previous year. Some roles we have filled internally include Level 1 Delay Attributor, Service Delivery Manager, two Driver Instructors and a Driver Manager.

ARL is way above the average when it comes to internal hires

FACT: According to LinkedIn, the UK average across all industries is 20%. So far, in 2023, more than 41% of vacancies at ARL have been filled internally. This shows we are way above the average – and still trying to do more.
