FOOD BANKS ARE VITAL FOR MORE THAN ONE REASON

Introducing City Harvest - a redistribution charity tackling two significant issues: food waste and poverty.

City Harvest diverts quality food that would otherwise go to waste and redistributes it to those facing food poverty across London. When one in four people struggle to access nutritious food, and one in three parents miss meals to feed their families, City Harvest's solution is manifold.

To coincide with Harvest Festival, at the suggestion of customer host, David Cranstoun, ARL will have a food collection point at Acton Central station from 1-21 October to collect items for City Harvest London.

Speaking on how the idea of a food bank started, David explained: “I was so inspired and motivated by our customers' willingness and kindness that I thought it would be a good gesture and a privilege to help set up a food bank at our station to help those in need and to curve food wastage.

The Acton Central team will ask for food donations, including packets of rice, pasta, grains, and pulses; tins of meat, fish, beans, and soup; jars of sauces & condiments, as well as long-life milk, fruit juice & squash.

All donations will be welcome if they are in the original undamaged, unopened packaging and are within their use-by date.

If you cannot get to Acton Central but would like to donate, there will also be a collection box in the training room at Camden Road.

After visiting City Harvest and seeing how they will redistribute the items we collect; I am so delighted with the help of SDM Pauline Lawler, this dream is becoming a reality”, David said.
