LONDON OVERGROUND LINES HAVE OFFICIALLY BEEN NAMED

Thursday 15 February marked an important milestone in London Overground’s history, as the new names of the six London Overground lines were officially announced.

Colleagues across the network were busy sharing information on the Lioness, Mildmay, Liberty, Weaver, Suffragette and Windrush lines with our customers.

Steve Best, managing director, and Victoria Liddell, programme manager, also joined the Mayor of London and colleagues from Transport for London to unveil the line names at Highbury and Islington station.

"We’re thrilled to have helped TfL on this once-in-a-generation project in naming our London Overground routes. Thank you to everyone who has been involved so far in delivering this project, and to those of you who will play an important part over the coming months. I look forward to seeing the complete unveiling later in the year.” - Steve Best, managing director.

What are the stories behind the new line names?
The names give each of the lines its own identity, reflecting London’s rich history and diversity.

Why have the lines been named?
Since the London Overground was created in 2007, the network has expanded, improved connectivity for millions of people and supported new jobs, homes and economic growth. There are now more than 3 million passengers using the service each week, connecting some of London's most historic and diverse neighbourhoods.

Giving each of the six London Overground routes an individual line colour lets us improve the way our customers experience our network, as well as bringing a positive and unique opportunity to engage customers and communities. Specific improvements will include:

Increased usability and understanding of the network
- Greater customer confidence
- Clearer wayfinding
- Clearer service disruption information

What’s next?
The new lines will come into use operationally in autumn 2024. Over the next few months, station signage across the London Overground network will be updated, and the iconic Tube map redesigned to include the new names and colours.

Keep an eye out on further information around celebrations ahead of the launch later this year!
