MONDAY IS WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY

World Mental Health Day is held every year on 10 October. It is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of taking care of our own mental health and wellbeing as well as looking out for others.

This year’s theme is “make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority”. ARL works in partnership with the Samaritans to prevent people from taking their lives. ARL colleagues have intervened in 84% of all incidents to prevent harm to vulnerable persons on London Overground, showing that everyone plays a key role in suicide prevention not only by direct intervention, but also by being more aware of the most vulnerable in our society.

Many people struggle to cope at one point or another in their lives.  On World Mental Health Day, we are asking people to check in with a colleague, friend or family member.  Reaching out to someone could help them know that someone cares, that they are valued and help them access the support they need.

How to approach people in need:

  • Introduce yourself and encourage them to talk. Listen
  • Offer to talk in a safer environment
  • Offer Samaritans support – 116 123 (free number to call)

Remember we are here to listen, support is available:

If you think someone might need help, trust your instinct and start a conversation. That is all it can take to help someone and even start them on the road to recovery.
