ON THE MOVE

From train presentation support to supervisor, Pawel Jasionowski’s rise is inspiring others to follow in his footsteps

As a train presentation supervisor, I lead a team of 14 at Liverpool Street station. Due to a re-organisation of all structures this year, I will soon join a small supervisory team that will lead train presentation colleagues across Arriva Rail London.

I’m motivated by my important responsibilities. My role is to ensure that my team have everything in place to do their jobs safely and effectively. I ensure everyone is clear on their tasks and follows correct procedures. I monitor stock levels and work closely with my team to cover absences so we can keep working efficiently. Maintaining high standards is very important to me.

I was a cleaner before I became a supervisor in 2015. I took advantage of the job shadow programme at ARL and was able to learn from colleagues such as train coordinators and supervisors. Through the company, I was able to obtain a Personal Track Safety certification (PTS card) which allowed me to work in multiple locations, including the depot, where I met many colleagues and could understand the organisation further. Following in my footsteps, one member of my team recently requested to be put on this course, which she has now completed.

Look for opportunities to learn. The company never stops you if you are eager to develop. You will get good experience and meet people just by putting yourself out there.

I have a nine-month-old daughter. All my hobbies have been side-lined because of this! I used to read comic books, watch superhero movies and enjoyed role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons (I’m a huge fantasy geek!). When my daughter is older, I’m sure I’ll have hobbies again but right now I am very happy just being a dad.
