PEOPLE STEERING GROUP MAKES DONATIONS IN SUPPORT OF MENTAL HEALTH
Inspired by this year’s Shining Star nominations, the People Steering Group (PSG) is delighted to have made two charity donations in support of mental health. The donation is being split between the Mental Health Foundation and the Samaritans.
While reviewing nominations for this year’s Shining Star Awards ceremony, the PSG noticed there were a number of colleagues nominated who had taken action to step in and prevent suicides across the network. In recognition of this, the PSG has used part of their budget to make a donation to the Mental Health Foundation and the Samaritans.
Green ribbon pins, the international symbol for mental health awareness, were also placed at each table setting at the Shining Star Awards ceremony to acknowledge the great work colleagues do on a daily basis to look after our customers. These can be worn to show colleagues, loved ones or simply those we walk past that we care about everyone’s mental health.
Lilian Chu, chair of PSG said: “There are times in our lives when we all need a little help and support. Through diligence and kindness, our employees often provide this support when people need it the most. Our partnership with the Samaritans is there to support our team and our customers and it’s with great pleasure that we were able to make this donation.”
The Samaritans is a charity dedicated to reducing factors that can lead to suicide. The PSG chose this charity for all the work they do to prevent suicides on the railway, and for the support they offer when people need it the most.
The Mental Health Foundation has been the UK’s leading charity for mental health since 1949. This charity was selected as prevention is at the heart of what they do. The charity aims to address the sources of mental health problems so that people and communities can thrive.
In total, £620 was donated as part of the evening of recognition. The money will go towards supporting volunteers that help people cope in times of need, as well as researching better solutions, influencing policymakers and advocating for change to save lives.
