Push To Talk

Arriva Rail London has invested in a new communication device for our customer experience teams called Push to Talk. The aim is to enhance communication effectiveness and reliability across teams particularly during service disruption.

This rollout will provide us with several benefits, including:

  • Improved Communication: (e.g., clearer audio, increased range, better signal penetration)
  • Enhanced Features: (Ability to speak to adjacent stations)
  • Increased Efficiency: (Broadcast messages sent from Control on service updates and alterations)

Stations

  • We are currently carrying out a proof of concept at the following stations:
  • Acton Central
  • Clapham Junction (ARL platform)
  • Imperial Wharf
  • Kensington Olympia
  • Shepherd’s Bush
  • South Acton
  • Willesden Junction

At stations there is a device available for each area of the station, ticket office, gateline and platforms.

There is the ability for 2 way communication as follows:

  • Within station (similar to station radios)
  • Between stations i.e. Shepherd’s Bush to Kensington Olympia

This allows you to share information as appropriate with colleagues.

Control

There is a Push to Talk terminal in the Control department.  This allows only 1-way communication from Control to stations (either individual or a group).

Some of the examples of what control will broadcast across radios.

·       Hourly Service Updates

·       Trains Terminating Short (e.g. South Acton)

·       Fast Running Trains (e.g. Fast to Clapham Junction)

Important Things to Note

Push to Talk is to be used as a radio communication device only. Although the device has other features, these will not be enabled.

The following items WILL NOT be enabled on Push to Talk devices.

  • GPS Tracking
  • Ability to make phone calls
  • Camera
  • Internet Browsing
  • SOS Emergency

Staff feedback will be crucial during the trial in helping us refine the system before its full rollout. If you have any issues or questions during the trial, please contact your Service Delivery Manager.
