SPREADING FESTIVE CHEER: ARL SANTA'S GROTTO

On Tuesday, 10 December, Dalston Junction station was transformed into a winter wonderland as ARL threw its annual Christmas Grotto event for local schoolchildren. The event was put together by Aliyah Abdulla, head of procurement, and Neal Bailey, customer experience manager, with a little help from some of our colleagues.

Over 180 excited children from local schools came along to meet Santa, who was performed by Charlotte Whitfield’s father, our customer experience director. He handed out special gifts to every child in his Grotto. While waiting for their turn, the children enjoyed games, a lively dance-off with prizes, and even a candy stall sponsored by a local Dalston sweet shop, Hazal Nuts, where they could trade tokens for sweet treats.

The festive fun didn’t stop there – our executive team got into the festive spirit by dressing up as elves. Bentley Brooks, service delivery manager, and Walé Agunbiadé, customer host, also spun some Christmas tunes as DJs to keep everyone dancing.

"Christmas reminds us that this season is all about family, and together, we are one big railway family."
John Mortimer, station assistant

Following the huge success of this event, we’re keeping the Christmas cheer going with a follow-up celebration on Friday, 13 December, at a school in Southwark. ARL’s Christmas Grotto is quickly becoming a beloved tradition, and it’s all thanks to the amazing team spirit that makes events like this so special.

"It's heart-warming to see ARL colleagues spreading Christmas cheer to local school children. Witnessing the children's joyful smiles as they enjoyed the music and visited Santa was truly special. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event a success."
