TIP YOUR WITCHES' HAT TO WALTHAMSTOW QUEENS ROAD

As we look back on some of the fantastic transformation projects the infrastructure projects & facilities management (IPFM) team have completed throughout the summer, our second stop leads us to Walthamstow Queens Road. Discover how some clever thinking has diffused an ongoing problem.

It's been a long-standing issue at the station with members of the public sit in this 'red zone' while oncoming trains approach the platform.

To stop the problem, the team put witches' hats on the popular sitting spot to deter customers from putting themselves in danger; this was another issue that was brought to the teams' attention through a planned general inspection (PGI).

Scroll down to see how the position was used while passengers were waiting for their trains to arrive.

Discussing how the issue was brought to light, Rob Taylor, station assistant, explained: "When I first raised it, a guy was sitting on them, and I could hear the alarm. The driver saw the individual and feared the person was trying to commit suicide. So, we had to let those in the know make the changes that needed to be made for customer safety."

Service delivery manager, Hitesh Patel said: "Despite obstacles, having tenacity and the desire to improve things whilst raising safety standards will always get results."
