FACILITIES AND INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS IN RESPONSE TO 2023 SURVEY
We are committed to listening to our colleagues, and our response to the 2023 Employee Engagement Survey demonstrates this.
Since October 2023, the Facilities Management (FM) team, led by FM minor works manager, Kevin Jordan, has delivered 34 minor works projects. These include key upgrades such as platform access improvements and staff facility renovations at South Acton, flooring upgrades across multiple stations, and much more.
Upgrades include:
As you look to the right of your screen, you'll see images showing platform end gates installed on platform two at South Acton station. Passengers had been attempting to walk off the end of the platform when exiting the station every week; this was a long-awaited improvement for our frontline and safety team colleagues.
Speaking with Exchange Extra, Kevin Jordan said: "It's been rewarding to see the positive impact these projects have on our network. Each upgrade, from flooring to staff facilities, is a direct response to the feedback we've received, ensuring we create a better environment for our colleagues and passengers."
In addition to these projects, the FM team delivered significant upgrades in July and August during the Chingford Blockade, with improvements spanning across other stations on the Weaver line route including Chingford, Highams Park, Wood Street, Walthamstow Central and St James Street. Key renovation work consisted of platform deep cleaning, trackside vegetation removal, and painting of canopies and station interiors, ensuring a more comfortable and safer experience for colleagues and passengers.
Furthermore, the Infrastructure Projects team, led by Peter Cumlin, executed crucial upgrades during this period. The replacement of daggerboards at Chingford, Walthamstow Central and Clapton stations ensured enhanced safety and preservation of these heritage structures. The Clapton stairs refurbishment (below), completed in early August 2024, involved extensive structural enhancements, such as steel bracing replacements, rust removal, and the installation of new, durable stair treads.
Head of infrastructure projects & facilities management, Steve Moran, also commented on his team's efforts to improve facilities across the network: “Our focus has always been on continuous improvement and responding to the needs of our workforce. The success of these projects shows our commitment to enhancing stations across the network and ensuring everyone at ARL has the best possible working environment.”
Our 2024 employee engagement survey launches on Wednesday, 9 October. Have your say, sharing your views on what matters to you.
